The Ol Malo Impact

As a family deeply rooted in Kenya, we stand by the people and wildlife of this land and are invested in their future. We support our partner, The Samburu Trust, by providing physical spaces such as two schools, the Trust Burns Room, the Mamaʼs Beading Workshop, and our Trust Gift Shop to sell their beaded products. We also give our time and expertise for free for assistance on wildlife conflict, medical care, and building water reservoir systems to support the entire ecosystem.

Conservation Projects

Our hope is to open your eyes to Regenerative travel, a form of tourism that aims to leave a destination in a better state than it was found.

The Sambura Trust

Cultural connections are woven into the fabric of Ol Malo, where guests engage with the local Samburu communities, gaining insights into their traditions and forging meaningful connections ‘giving back’ can be done through support to the Samburu Trust.

Based at Ol Malo since 2000 this development through arts programme supports 60+ women and their families from the surrounding area. The women depend on this employment and their sales through the shop, the beadwork is high-quality and the women work hard

Kenya Choppers & South Island Trust

Lake Turkana, the world’s largest desert lake, is one of Kenya’s most remote and ecologically unique regions. Through a strong partnership with the South Island Trust, Kenya Choppers is proud to be the core catalyst in supporting critical conservation efforts in this fragile ecosystem.

Kenya Choppers and Ol Malo are committed to blending high-end low impact tourism with long-term environmental stewardship. Our support to the South Island Trust is one way we ensure that conservation reaches even the most isolated corners of Kenya, where it is needed most.

Supporting Conservation with Flight

Our helicopter plays a vital dual role: while it primarily serves tourism—offering unforgettable aerial safaris and scenic flights—it is also a critical asset in our conservation mission. By strategically allocating flying hours outside of peak tourism activity, we are able to dedicate significant time and resources to conservation initiatives without compromising our primary operations.

Our helicopter is deployed for a range of conservation tasks, often in direct response to urgent needs on the ground.

This includes:
Rapid Response for Wounded Wildlife

The Elephant Path

Join the Elephant Path. Storytelling has become one of the most powerful tools of education. This is a long term project to grow a knowledge bank from elders to ensure the land, communities, elephants and indigenous knowledge thrives. This is one of the most exciting projects we know but it needs help to grow.

The Warrior Team

An essential part of all operations involving people and wildlife in the area are the Samburu Trust Scouts, who act as the eyes and ears on the ground, further afield than most conservancy teams and with ancient knowledge of migration routes and watering holes.

These trained community scouts monitor wildlife and serve as first responders, alerting our conservation team when an animal , a person or community is injured or at risk. Their local knowledge and presence across the landscape form a vital messenger network, ensuring that no call for help goes unheard.

Mama’s Beading Workshop

Beadwork is far more than craft— it is a powerful way to empower women, preserving their culture, and healing both their communities and ecosystems.
The Samburu Trust Mamas have been behind the bead workshop since 2000, their work is not mass produced, it's made with love and creates a direct income for women who may otherwise have limited access to formal employment. With bead sales to the tourism into the area to see wildlife, the women and communities see an income and a reason to live alongside wildlife.

Beadwork is part of Samburu life, it carries stories of identity, status, and heritage.
